Erik has more than 27 years of emergency management experience and more than 40 years of emergency response experience, including service as a paramedic/firefighter, law enforcement officer, and park ranger. In addition to possessing premier, peer-conferred certifications as a Certified Emergency Manager®, Certified Business Continuity Professional®, and Certified Protection Professional®, Erik is a FEMA-certified Master Exercise Practitioner, FEMA-certified Master Continuity Practitioner, Pro Board-certified Fire Officer III, Pro Board-certified Fire Service Instructor III, Nationally Registered Paramedic, and hazardous materials technician. He serves on the DHS Emergency Services Sector Coordinating Council, as the Emergency Services Sector Chief for InfraGard National Capital Region, and as the Secretary/Treasurer for Region III of the International Association of Emergency Managers.
Prior to joining Cadmus, Erik was a consultant specializing in emergency management, public safety, counterterrorism/homeland security, organizational resilience, and enterprise risk management. He has led and provided subject matter expertise on projects for nearly a dozen Federal agencies and numerous local governmental, education, and private-sector clients in the United States, Europe, Canada, Africa, the Caribbean, and the Middle East. Erik was formerly the Director of the Operational Improvements for the District of Columbia under Mayor Anthony A. Williams. In that role, he helped run the District’s Emergency Operations Center on 9/11. In the months following, he led the development of numerous emergency plans, policies, procedures, and exercises. Additionally, he was a key liaison for the Mayor and City Administrator in the intergovernmental response to the 2001 Anthrax attacks.
In addition to completing a Certificate in Executive Leadership from Cornell University and the Program for Senior Executives in State and Local Government at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, Erik has earned an MBA and a Master of Public Policy from Georgetown University and bachelor’s degree from Columbia University.
