Nonprofit Homeowners Organization Honors Cadmus Senior Vice President Dr. Sami Khawaja and Cadmus

Waltham, Mass., June 19, 2013—The Cadmus Group, Inc. (Cadmus) announced that Dr. M. Sami Khawaja, Senior Vice President of Cadmus’ Energy Services Division, accepted an award on behalf of Cadmus this week from People Working Cooperatively (PWC), a nonprofit organization serving low-income, elderly, and disabled homeowners in Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana. Dr. Khawaja accepted the Homer award for Cadmus’ dedicated partnership, compassionate contributions, and important research, which PWC stated “has been invaluable in allowing PWC to keep people safely in their homes.”

This is only the 5th Homer Award PWC has issued in the organization’s 38-year history. Cadmus has been involved with PWC since 1996.

PWC President and CEO Jock Pitts flew from Cincinnati to Cadmus’ office in Portland, Ore., to surprise Dr. Khawaja with the award and celebrate with staff.

“At Cadmus, we are proud to have contributed to PWC’s success, as this remarkable organization has enabled thousands of low-income families in Ohio to stay in their homes and live in dignity,” said Dr. Khawaja. “We have worked on several projects for PWC for nearly 20 years, and I am convinced that the longevity of the organization is due in large part to exemplary business sense and management. Time after time, we have been impressed by the dedication of PWC staff to the organization’s clients and with the remarkable business acumen demonstrated by Jock Pitts, their executive director. These caring, competent people have created a model that could benefit cities throughout the United States.”

Cadmus has performed a wide array of services over the course of its relationship with PWC, including weatherization, home repair, and mobility modifications program evaluations. Most recently, Cadmus conducted an evaluation tracking 120 participating families who received PWC services over the course of an entire year. Results found that program participants significantly improved in each of the primary life areas—housing, home condition, energy security, and health—after receiving services.

PWC, incorporated in 1975, strengthens communities by providing professional, critical home repairs, weatherization, modification, and maintenance services to help residents stay safely in their homes.
