Cadmus Supports Transportation Research Board with Sustainability-Related Research for Airports

Waltham, Mass., June 4, 2014—The Cadmus Group, Inc. (Cadmus) announced today that it has been awarded a contract to support the Transportation Research Board’s (TRB’s) Airport Cooperative Research Program (ACRP) by researching and developing a resource guide to help airport operators understand and evaluate alternative taxiing systems with the potential to reduce emissions and energy use. Cadmus has partnered on this project with experts from Ricardo-AEA Ltd; KB Environmental Sciences, Inc.; Arizona State University; Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport; and the University of South Florida.

Deploying alternative systems during the taxi phase of aircraft operation has the potential to reduce aircraft emissions, fuel consumption, and noise. While many of these alternatives may provide energy and environmental benefits, their use could introduce potential challenges to aircraft operators and air traffic control, and new demands upon airport infrastructure.

After conducting a comprehensive assessment of the current technology and future prospects, the Cadmus team will develop a resource guide to help airport stakeholders understand the issues involved, incorporating recommendations to maximize the advantages of alternative systems.

Cadmus works with federal, state, and local government clients and private firms to increase the efficiency of transportation practices and programs through methods that reduce harmful emissions, save energy, and minimize waste. Our sustainable transportation solutions help lower fuel dependence, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, protect critical assets, and support healthy communities and habitats while managing costs across the life cycle.
