Cadmus to Support Development of Virginia Statewide Airport Sustainability Plan
Waltham, Mass., January 8, 2015—The Cadmus Group, Inc. (Cadmus) announced today that it has been awarded a contract with the Virginia Department of Aviation to prepare a statewide sustainability management plan to serve all of the Commonwealth’s 66 public-use airports. This is only the second such plan developed in the United States for a statewide aviation system.
The ultimate goal of the sustainability management plan is to help Virginia airports of various types and sizes better manage their environmental footprint, leverage opportunities with community members, utilize their scarce resources, and promote economic development in the Commonwealth.
The plan will provide a practical, user-friendly framework that assists airports with integrating sustainability practices into planning, design, construction, maintenance, and operations. The plan will include resources such as templates, tools, and guidance to maximize utilization by airport operators and minimize strain on their institutional resources.
The Virginia Department of Aviation is a state transportation agency with a mission to cultivate an advanced aviation system that is safe, secure and provides for economic development; to promote aviation awareness and education; and to provide the safest and most efficient flight services. This agency provides financial and technical assistance to eligible airport sponsors, administers applicable provisions of the Code of Virginia, plans for the development of the state aviation system, licenses airports and aircraft, and promotes aviation activities within the state.
