American University Names Cadmus Associate “Most Innovative Green Teacher of the Year”

Cadmus Associate and award-winning architect Victoria Kiechel has received the 2009-2010 Most Innovative Green Teacher of the Year Award from the Center for Teaching, Research and Learning at American University, where she is a member of the faculty of the School of International Service.

Ms. Kiechel was chosen for the award because “she takes a conventional course topic, ‘sustainable building,’ and presents it using green principles while finding a practical application for that sustainability knowledge” on the American University campus, where “her students . . . test their green building knowledge by collecting information about buildings on campus,” according to the American University website.

“We’re pleased that Vicky was recognized for her leadership and commitment to sustainability. As the senior architect in our Green Building practice, she provides the same leadership and teaching to her colleagues at Cadmus and to our clients.” said Ed Miller, Cadmus vice president and head of the Voluntary Programs Group, which includes Ms. Kiechel.

“It’s staff members like Vicky, who have one foot in academia and the other here, that ensure Cadmus remains in the forefront of new technology and state-of-the-art practices in service to our clients,” Mr. Miller said.

Ms. Kiechel received the award at an event that also celebrated the success of the school’s Green Teaching Program, which has certified more than 120 American University professors this year, according to the American University Web site.
