Sustainable Design Pioneer Alan Scott Joins Cadmus’ Green Building Team
The Cadmus Group, Inc., today announced that Alan Scott, a globally recognized leader in green building and a pioneer in sustainable design, joined the company’s high-performance building practice at the end of January.
Mr. Scott comes to Cadmus from Green Buildings Services, Inc., the Portland, Oregon-based sustainable building consultancy he founded in August 2000 and grew from a staff of three to a staff of more than 40 professionals with offices in four states.

An architect by training, Mr. Scott was one of the nation’s first building professionals to champion sustainable design through innovation and appropriate technologies best suited for each unique climate, culture, and site. He has been actively involved in more than 50 LEED-certified projects and has guided many other LEED-targeted projects through design. His list of consulting firsts includes developing the first LEED-certified project in Oregon, the first LEED Gold for New Construction project in the city of Houston, the first LEED-certified courthouse in Texas, and the first LEED-certified project in Peru.
The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) recruited Mr. Scott to teach a new advanced LEED course, and he quickly became one of the nation’s first USGBC LEED faculty in April 2002. Since then, he has taught more than 45 USGBC LEED workshops to more than 3,200 building professionals across North America. In addition, he has delivered over 50 sustainable design workshops and presented at 11 significant conferences, reaching combined audiences of more than 3,400 industry experts.
In recognition of his contributions to the field, the USGBC chose Mr. Scott as one of its inaugural LEED Fellows in 2011. He was also awarded the Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance’s BetterBricks Award for Professional Services in 2003, the inaugural year of the award, and recently was named a Fellow by the American Institute of Architects.
Mr. Scott’s commitment to sustainability extends beyond his professional activities. He renovated and expanded his 100-year-old house in Portland, Ore., using resource-efficient construction including energy- and water-saving features and a 3 kilowatt photovoltaic system. The home is featured in two books and was part of the Solar Oregon/City of Portland Build It Green Tour from 2001 to 2004. More than 3,000 people went through the house, many of whom were inspired to undertake similar retrofits.
