Cadmus Will Support USAID with Senegal Fisheries Assessment

Waltham, Mass., January 7, 2015—The Cadmus Group, Inc. (Cadmus) announced today that it has been awarded a contract with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) to assess the Collaborative Management of Sustainable Fisheries program, a five-year initiative designed to achieve reform of Senegal’s fisheries sector to sustain productivity and enhance the participation of artisanal fisherman and women. COMFISH is also designed to promote biodiversity conservation and to address adaptation to climate change impacts.

COMFISH is being implemented by the University of Rhode Island in collaboration with the Government of Senegal and other local partners. Cadmus will conduct a mid-term evaluation to assess the program’s progress in achieving its goals and deliver recommendations and insights regarding good practices and lessons learned.

Senegal’s fisheries play a critical role in the country’s food security, citizens’ livelihoods, and local and national economic growth. In addition, Senegal’s marine fisheries are part of the West Africa Marine Ecoregion, one of the world’s most biologically diverse areas. The fisheries sector has experienced declining productivity in recent years due to degradation and depletion of resources, misguided investments, overfishing, and overinvestment in onshore processing of fisheries products.
