Cadmus Wins $4 Million Award from USAID

Support Contract for Solar Project Development in Jamaica

WASHINGTON, DC, January 29, 2021 – Cadmus has received a $4 million award from USAID to help support the acceleration of the solar photovoltaic and battery storage market in Jamaica. We co-hosted a launch event of the Jamaica Energy Resilience Alliance with USAID and our Alliance partners on January 13, 2021. The Alliance aims to support hotels and other businesses in Jamaica to access the benefits of distributed solar energy and battery storage through technical support, and mobilizes up to US$50 million in investment funds to support solar projects with battery storage. The new Alliance activity will also help reduce key barriers to solar energy and battery storage adoption and enhance business continuity amongst Jamaican companies. Assistance available to hotels and other businesses through the Alliance initiative includes:

  • Assessment of the business case for solar and battery storage
  • Information to support decisions and demystify the installation processes
  • Aggregated purchasing campaigns for buyers
  • Channels for accessing financing from Alliance partners

The initiative will also offer training for Jamaican solar installers and strengthen the sector through workforce development with engagement of underrepresented populations (including women); giving them access to scholarships.
