Putman’s New Book Will Help Colleges and Universities Meet Challenges of Global Climate Change

(September 13, 2007) — Cadmus associate Andrea Putman is writing her second book, Boldly Sustainable: Higher Education and the Challenge of Climate Change. The book will examine how colleges and universities can leverage their commitment to sustainability not only to save money and have a positive impact on the environment, but also to carve out a distinctive niche in the marketplace.

Boldly Sustainable is scheduled to be published in December 2008 by the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO). Among the project’s sponsors is the Park Foundation.

Andrea is a member of the Implementation Advisory Committee of the American College & University Presidents Climate Commitment (ACUPCC). The ACUPCC is a high-visibility effort to gather pledges from institutions of higher education to neutralize their greenhouse gas emissions and accelerate their research and education efforts to equip society to re-stabilize the earth’s climate.

Andrea’s co-author, Peter Bardaglio, Ph.D., serves on the Senior Council of the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education, the Sustainability Advice and Review Panel of the Society for College and University Planning, and the editorial board of Sustainability: Research and Practices.

Andrea’s first book, The Business Case for Renewable Energy: A Guide for Colleges and Universities, was published in May 2006 by NACUBO. Written with Michael Philips, the book is a guide for institutions of higher education that want to make the leap to renewable energy.

Andrea has worked in the energy field for more than 15 years. She joined Cadmus in September 2006 and works on projects to promote energy efficient buildings, homes, and products and on an effort to promote energy efficiency in five southeastern states.
