Rapidly Growing Voluntary Programs Group Makes Strategic Hires
(December 11, 2007) — Cadmus’ Voluntary Programs Group—which supports non-regulatory programs that promote pollution prevention and public health protection—recently added to its highly qualified senior staff to provide additional resources for its rapidly growing practice areas. These most recent hires include experts in buildings management and operations, energy efficiency, property management, and marketing communications.
“Adding such highly skilled staff members is a critical component of our growth strategy and quite an accomplishment given today’s highly competitive market for consultants who have these skills,” says Edward Miller, vice president of the group. “Our ability to attract such high-quality professionals as these says volumes about our company and our work environment.”
Michael Jawer, a buildings management and operations expert, will add to our capabilities in the green and healthy buildings areas. He comes to the Environmental Health Solutions practice with 23 years of experience in marketing and communications for nonprofit and government organizations. Mr. Jawer served for 6 years as the special assistant for communications at the General Service Administration’s (GSA’s) Public Buildings Service, where he led communications and marketing initiatives aimed at private sector partners. He produced GSA’s National Security Guidance for Federal Agencies and Federal Building Operators, a guide to preparing for and responding to energy emergencies. He also developed an indoor air quality training and overall environmental management system for GSA, and he worked with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on the development of the Building Air Quality guide and software (I-BEAM).
In addition, Mr. Jawer worked for 10 years at the Building Owners and Managers Association, where he was the assistant vice president of government and industry affairs. His advocacy work on indoor air quality, energy efficiency, fire safety, accessibility, and tax issues resulted in savings of over $500,000 per building! He holds a Bachelor of Arts in secondary education from George Washington University.
Robert Van Der Like, a member of the Building Performance Services practice, will contribute to our work for the Southeast Rebuild Collaborative, the national ENERGY STAR® Commercial and Industrial (C&I) programs, and our green building practice. He has extensive experience with the energy industry network as a member of the Energy Services Coalition (ESC) board and chair of its sustainable practices committee. (ESC is a national nonprofit network of experts from a broad range of organizations working at the state and local levels to increase energy efficiency and building upgrades through energy savings performance contracting.) He also is administrator of the Florida Association of School Business Officials’ Energy Managers’ Committee.
A 20-year veteran of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Mr. Van Der Like is a certified energy manager (by the Association of Energy Engineers) and a Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) Accredited Professional. He holds a Bachelor of Design in architecture from the University of Florida’s College of Architecture and a Master of Science in construction management from Arizona State University.
Charles Polinger joined our Building Performance Services practice after 34 years with GSA, where he served as a senior manager in the National Capital Region specializing in property management and operations and maintenance (O&M). He worked with numerous federal properties in the Washington, D.C., area, particularly those housing EPA and the departments of Treasury, Energy, and Commerce. Mr. Polinger often served as the property management specialist for properties under construction and initiated the management of new facilities. His career includes responsibilities for the O&M of seven heating and refrigeration plants and steam distribution lines in the Washington area. Mr. Polinger holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Maryland and a master’s degree in engineering administration from The George Washington University. A professional engineer licensed by the State of Maryland, he is an International Facility Management Association-certified facility manager and holds a real property administrator certification from the Building Owners and Managers Association.
Richard Gilroy, a member of our Marketing and Media Services practice, is an award-winning marketing communications professional who has directed successful programs for federal, nonprofit, health care, financial, restaurant, and retail clients. He developed creative strategies and concepts, wrote copy, and supervised the production of numerous TV spots, radio commercials, print ads, brochures, and Web-based communications.
