Joel Zahlan, Ph.D.

Principal

Dr. Zahlan has over 11 years of experience in the energy efficiency industry, including broad experience in, project management, engineering analysis, and research. As a senior member of the Commercial and Industrial Practice, Dr. Zahlan leads several impact evaluations covering the full range of nonresidential applications focused on delivering actionable insights for a variety of clients. He has extensive experience overseeing and conducting on-site energy and process assessments, energy efficiency audits, measurement and verification, power metering and engineering analysis at thousands of sites. His focus is on energy efficiency and optimization of industrial systems and has published several papers and conducted trainings to that effect including co-authoring the U.S. Department of Energy Uniform Methods Project Compressed Air Evaluation Protocols (2020). Dr. Zahlan has worked on over 150 energy efficiency and process improvement projects at commercial and industrial facilities, resulting in savings of over $30 million annually.

Prior to joining Cadmus, Dr. Zahlan was vice president of business process at United Real Estate Company, responsible for business and operational improvement projects. He was team lead and project manager for U.S. Department of Energy Industrial Assessment Center at University of Miami, leading more than 90 on-site energy assessments of industrial facilities in Florida and Puerto Rico.

Dr. Zahlan holds a Ph.D. and a master’s degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Miami, and a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with a Minor in Business Administration from Florida Institute of Technology. In addition, Joel is a Project Management Professional (PMP), and has completed the NFPA 70E Electrical Safety in Workplace training. He also has a certificate from Wharton Executive Education program on Mastering Innovation.
