Cadmus and PTI Help Local Governments Apply for Stimulus Funds
City and county governments across the country are getting a boost from The Cadmus Group, Inc. and the Public Technology Institute (PTI) in applying for federal stimulus funds to reduce energy use and improve energy efficiency. Cadmus and PTI have teamed to help local governments complete—before the June 25 deadline—proposals for Energy and Environment Community Block Grant (EECBG) program funds.
“These funds are available on a one-time basis. Local governments can use the funds for projects that create green jobs and overcome barriers to energy efficiency, but that would otherwise fall outside other mainstream funding sources,” said Julio Rovi, the Cadmus principal who works most closely with PTI.
The funding proposals must follow detailed guidelines established by the U.S. Department of Energy. That’s where Cadmus and PTI come in. They offer two options: a template-based approach that combines industry best practices with local shovel-ready projects and, for governments that already have energy efficiency programs, a customized approach tailored to local projects and initiatives identified by these jurisdictions.
“The PTI-Cadmus alliance is a great resource for local governments because we can help save applicants the significant staff time they would have to devote in order to figure out the forms, goals, desired outcomes and various guidance documents issued by the federal government,” said Mr. Rovi. “By staying on top of guidance documents and communicating with DOE, we aspire to deliver top-quality proposals that will translate into top-quality projects worth replicating.”
In the past few months Mr. Rovi has presented highlights of the EECBG opportunity to governments around the U.S. that belong to PTI. He was recently retained by Arizona utilities to speak to more than 50 local governments on how to make the most of these funds.
Part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA), the $787 billion recovery package signed into law by President Barack Obama in February, the EECBG program sets aside $3.2 billion for energy and energy efficiency projects.
