Cadmus Celebrates Move of Expanded Corporate Headquarters to Sustainable, Green Facility
The Cadmus Group, Inc., a leading energy, environmental, and social good consultancy, will mark the recent relocation of its corporate headquarters to 100 5th Avenue, Suite 100, in Waltham, Mass., with an open house for clients and partners on Tuesday, July 24.
The new, larger space is designed with the company’s expected continued strong growth in mind. Besides room to accommodate a growing headquarters staff that now numbers close to 100 professionals, it features more meeting rooms, training spaces, and areas that foster collaboration between clients, partners, and staff members. Particularly noteworthy is the innovative, first-of-its-kind energy-efficiency laboratory and demonstration space equipped with environmental test chambers, boilers, furnaces, hot water tanks, and other heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment. This flexible area enables our technical staff members to prepare for whatever our utility and other energy clients need. We have already begun to host demonstrations and trainings for technicians on energy-efficiency practices and projects.
The new, sustainably designed offices are expected to qualify for a silver Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) based on its energy- and water-saving equipment and practices, use of recycled materials, and other green attributes. The headquarters’ green elements are the result of extensive planning that included focus groups of staff members. Our overall priorities for our new office space were energy and water efficiency as well as aspects of the building that most improved staff well-being and productivity. Where our interests were not captured by the LEED framework, we worked to ensure that we maintained the best of both worlds. For instance, LEED says nothing about acoustics but our six-zone white noise system and other acoustical measures ensured we don’t neglect our employees’ auditory environment.
The relocation marks the return to Waltham for the 30-year-old company. Of the company’s decision to keep its main office within the Route 128 belt circling Boston, President and CEO Ian Kline said, “We have been well served for decades drawing on the deep talent pool around Boston, and we are committed to keeping our Boston roots even as we grow and evolve nationally. We have terrific partnerships with universities, academics, and specialists in the area, and our local and regional clients value our being so accessible to them.”
The move caps off a year in which Cadmus acquired a cutting-edge green building firm (California-based CTG), opened a new green office in Irvine, Calif., (expected to achieve LEED platinum status), and worked with the landlord of our Portland, Ore., offices to achieve LEED gold certification for the entire complex. Company leaders remain hopeful the new corporate headquarters will eventually qualify for gold certification as well.
