Cadmus Runs on Green Power to Reduce Carbon Footprint
As a leading environmental and energy consultancy, The Cadmus Group, Inc. (Cadmus) is helping combat global climate change and reducing its carbon footprint by relying on green power for its entire annual electricity consumption.
Nationwide, Cadmus uses about 800 megawatt-hours of electricity each year. The Blue Sky renewable energy program of Pacific Power, representing various renewable options from the Northwest, provides electricity for the company’s Portland, Ore., office. The Langdon Wind Energy Center in North Dakota covers the balance of the company’s electricity consumption in offices from California to Massachusetts.
“Our commitment to renewable energy sources is one example of how we strive to promote environmental protection, not only in the work we do, but also in how we run our business,” said Ian Kline, Cadmus’ president and chief executive officer.
Cadmus’ green power purchases avoid an estimated 575 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions each year, according to the EPA Green Power Equivalency Calculator. Those emissions are equivalent to the greenhouse gas emissions from 105 passenger vehicles, or the carbon dioxide emissions from burning three railroad cars’ worth of coal, or the carbon dioxide emissions from generating the electricity used by 80 average American homes.
“The generation of electricity is a significant source of greenhouse gases and other air pollution, but promoting renewable sources helps reduce the environmental impacts of energy production. Promoting those sources also helps drive down the cost of renewable energy over the long term, making it more accessible to businesses and individuals alike and increasing its benefits to the environment,” Mr. Kline said.
A member of the EPA Green Power Partnership since 2006, Cadmus first bought green power in mid-2007 to offset 15 percent of the company’s electricity use with power from new landfill gas generators in New England. The Green Power Partnership is a voluntary program that supports the purchase of green power by businesses, schools, government, and other organizations.
