What You’ll Be Doing
The Data Scientist is responsible for designing, building, tuning, and implementing advanced analytical models to detect, prevent, and mitigate risks related to Anti-Money Laundering (AML), sanctions evasion, fraud, and other financial crimes. This role requires a blend of quantitative expertise and data science skills and ability to apply these skills to regulatory compliance within the banking or financial services sectors.

Responsibilities
- Model Development & Implementation: Develop, test, and implement machine learning, statistical, and rules-based models for transaction monitoring, customer risk rating (KYC), and sanctions screening.
- Performance Optimization: Analyze, tune, and optimize detection models to increase efficiency (e.g., reducing false positives) while ensuring proper identification of suspicious activity.
- Data Analysis & Validation: Perform data mining, validation, and quality assessment on large, complex datasets to ensure model integrity and compliance with regulatory standards (e.g., SR 11-7).
- Documentation & Governance: Maintain thorough documentation of model development, performance, and testing, ensuring compliance with model risk management policies.
- Collaboration: Partner with compliance, technology, risk, and business units to align model capabilities with evolving threats and regulatory requirements.
- Emerging Risks: Investigate new fraud typologies and adapt models for emerging areas, such as cryptocurrency, blockchain forensics, and AI/GenAI solutions.
Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Information Science/ Data Science/ Applied Economics/ Applied Statistics and 3+ years of relevant experience.
- Core Technical Skills: Solid, proven technical foundation in SQL and Python and databases.
- Machine Learning Implementation: Proven understanding of machine learning concepts and hands-on capability to build ML projects and analytical tools.
- Domain Focus: Strong attention to detail, specifically regarding the nuances of financial products, external/internal entities, and the strict assumptions inherent in transaction monitoring.
- Independent Execution: Ability to independently approach complex, real-world data problems and execute daily responsibilities with minimal supervision.
- Agile Collaboration: Comfortable running or participating in daily Agile/Scrum meetings to present iterative progress, gather feedback, and document subsequent action items.
Additional Information:
Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States as a U.S Perm Resident or U.S. Citizen.

The minimum starting salary for this position is $70,000. The actual salary may be higher and will be determined by several factors, including relevant work experience, education, skills, and market competitiveness.
