Insights, preparedness, and industry perspectives for the 2026 hurricane season

Cadmus led planning and coordination for the 2026 Hurricane Season Outlook Webinar hosted by NOAA's Industry Partnerships program

As communities continue to prepare for hurricane season, timely insights and trusted information are more important than ever. As part of a team led by Consolidated Safety Services, inc. (CSS), Cadmus manages user engagement under a contract supporting the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI). Cadmus led planning and coordination for the August 2026 hurricane outlook webinar hosted by the program.

NOAA experts from the National Weather Service’s National Hurricane Center and Climate Prediction Center shared the latest seasonal outlook, updates on hurricane products and services, and resources to help organizations prepare for potential impacts.

Speakers

  • Matthew Rosencrans, Lead Seasonal Hurricane Forecaster, NOAA Climate Prediction Center
  • Dan Brown, Operations Division Chief, National Hurricane Center
  • Gabriel Marcus, Disaster and Business Continuity Planner, Costco Wholesale.

Following the presentations, the three speakers discussed roundtable-style how they can support each other to better prepare and better provide NOAA data to the public and industry members.

Key takeaways from the webinar

  • Major retailers spend a lot of time preparing for hurricane season so they are ready when a storm is approaching landfall. They integrate NOAA weather data into their systems, and rely on NOAA’s seasonal outlooks to understand what to expect ahead of each hurricane season.
  • Preparing early is worth the time! NOAA’s National Hurricane Center has resources and scientists who are available to help you with preparedness, calculating your local risk, and helping you understand how your facilities could be impacted.
  • NOAA is constantly evolving their forecasting capabilities, and rely on the public and partners to tell them what they need so they can improve what they provide every year.
