As part of a team led by Riverside Technology, inc., Cadmus manages user engagement under a contract supporting the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI). Through NCEI’s Industry Proving Grounds, Cadmus helps connect end-users with actionable data on extreme weather through tools such as the StoryMap described below.

A new StoryMap explores the impacts of hurricanes, as well as the data and tools that NOAA provides before, during, and after a storm.
The NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information’s (NCEI) Industry Proving Grounds (IPG) initiative is excited to announce a new StoryMap that describes how hurricanes form, how they impact the U.S., and how NOAA data and tools can help the public and members of industry prepare and respond to future storms. Hurricanes impact millions of lives and disrupt communities, economies, and vital industry and business operations. The damaging effects of gusting wind, torrential rain, and severe flooding from hurricanes lead to cascading secondary impacts with debris flow, downed trees, and damaged infrastructure.

StoryMap and the Science Behind Hurricanes
Through the interactive StoryMap experience, readers can learn about the science behind hurricanes along with their impacts on the public and major U.S. industries. NOAA hurricane data and tools highlighted in the StoryMap can aid industry decision-makers and the public in preparing for and responding to impacts from hurricanes and other climate disturbances. NOAA’s weather and climate data allow key personnel to plan for a more resilient supply chain that expedites the flow of goods to vulnerable communities when they are most needed.
Empowering Industries
The IPG initiative is an innovative effort connecting American industries—many with global operations—as well as scientific communities and the public with actionable environmental information products and services. Through this initiative, the IPG team is working closely with American industries to develop new products and refine existing tools that provide vital support to supply chain planning, rapid response operations, and resilient infrastructure. These efforts bolster a prosperous economy and build resilience in communities vulnerable to extreme weather.
